How is the Great River Road (IL 100 South) for bicycle riding (from Grafton to Alton IL)? As part of my ride across Missouri I may use that to get to St Louis.
I think there is a trail for part of Great River Road, but not all of it. Google view looks like there is no significant shoulder. Anybody know for sure?

Several years ago we rode from Alton to Pierre Marquette SP and back on this route. The trail is off road at the north end of this for several miles, winding up into the hills and over bridges, with no access to the road. Then you ride the shoulder, which is pretty wide, for the rest of the way to Alton. We then used the St. Louis River Road, which takes you out on trail from the road, to bike on down to the Arch.
