Based on what I saw in the trail advisories, the trail is closed from MM 115.9 to MM 121.4. In addition, the State's website advises there is a bridge out at MM 97 (just west of Case). No published detours for either of these. Can anyone make a recommendation? Looking to start our ride tomorrow afternoon. Would, and may, postpone with all the weather but its too late to rebook accommodations at this time without forfeiting payment.

Here's what I would do. Might be completely inappropriate for you. Evaluate your own ability and risk tolerance. Etc etc.

West of Case - use Google Maps satellite view. You can see where the bridge is probably out, and you can see an obvious ridearound.

If the outage isn't there, I guess you're on 94 for a bit. Lots of flashing lights and orange vests for you and your crew so you can make sure that you are seen.


Steedman to Portland - Ride the Katy until you get to the actual outage. Backtrack a little until you get to a back road that you can take to 94. Ride 94 for as short a distance as possible, and then cut back to the trail on another back road. If I am reading the flood gauges right, that section isn't actually flooded. They just don't want people falling into a washout or getting caught in suddenly rising waters.

Any of the above could be a death trap. Evaluate on your own, and if it doesn't feel right, don't do it.

Yes I called the parks dept and they were a little cryptic on what closed with no detour means. I plan to start a westbound ride Tuesday the 13th and would like more info also.

Basically “closed with no detour” means the trail is not considered safe to ride through and any alternate detour is not considered safe for trail riders to use (do to liability issues). There may be a route around the section of trail but it may include rough gravel roads or black top county roads with no shoulders. Several of the black top roads only have room for two cars and if you occupy the same part as the two cars on a blind hill you should be repaired to jump into the ditch. Thus you accept the liability for choosing the path, not the DNR.

Did the Steedman to Portland detour yesterday and the mm 97 today. Both are very easy short detours.

The "closed with no detour" at around 117 is a huge rock slide. Climbing over this would be seriously dangerous. They are going to have to wait for things to dry out to get in the huge equipment it will take to clear this. It may be weeks.
