Want to take my grandkids on a train ride from Jefferson City to Sedalia and back and was wondering if there are things to do within walking distance from the train station? We will have several hours before the train goes back to Jefferson City. Thanks!

No matter where you are there are things to do. Are they things you or your grandkids like to do? Who'd know the answer to that other than you and the grandkids? Have a look on Google maps of the area and how far out you're willing to walk. Zoom in and see if there are things to do that are of interest to you. Who knows, you all might end up with new tattoos and an ice cream cone.

How close is Hampton Inn from Sedalia train station?
Coming in at 7:30 in the evening. Will a bus or Uver take us to the Hampton? Thx!

Three miles or so on the west side of town.

The Hotel Bothwell is just a few blocks (5-6) away and is bike friendly. A better option perhaps.

Sedalia roads are not very bike friendly and the more west you go the more unfriendly they become.

You can get from the train station to the west side of town by using Main street. It will keep you off of Broadway/Hwy50. At some point you will need to cross Broadway to get to Hampton Inn. I would use Winchester Dr, go to the light to cross Broadway then turn right on to Leroy Vandyke Ave and the Hampton is just up a short ways on the left. That's a little less busier way, but no really shoulder.

I agree with the Hotel Bothwell being a great option. Not only is it close to the Amtrak station, it's also only about a mile from the Katy Trail. It's a classic hotel and friendly to bicycles.

If you plan on getting a hotel in Boonville, I recommend the Frederick. It's right on the Katy Trai and also friendly to cyclists.

Just wanted to agree with the previous two suggestions of Hotel Bothwell in Sedalia and Fredrick Hotel in Boonville. Both these may be a little more expensive than one would want but the experience is completely worth every penny. They are convenient, clean, bike-friendly, historic, and just down right a fun experience. And the experiences in the small towns along the way make the Katy Trail adventure more than just the bike ride.

I found out that adding the bikes occurs at the end of the ticket purchase. Hope I did not send anyone looking.

Does anyone know of a safe location to lock up your bike overnight in Sedalia? Taking the train back to Lee's Summit but only able to add 2 of 3 bikes for that trip. Planning on returning to Sedalia the following day to pick up the bike if possible.

We spent a few days last week in Sedalia. Found the Pro-Velo bike shop downtown. Super friendly staff. Check with them for suggestions. We did not leave our bikes so have no first hand knowledge other than this shop suggestion. Good Luck

I see that bikes can be added to the train ticket per previous comments. I am not seeing a way to add the bike at the Amtrak website. Did those of you who have done this recently call the general Amtrak number to buy tickets and add the bike(s)?

I need to take Amtrak from Sedalia to St. Louis to get back to my car which is parked in St.Charles. Is getting on an Amtrak train at the station with a bike allowed?

k on 03/29/2021 05:58 AM:
Yes, but you must purchase access for your bike at the time you purchase your own seat.

Bikes are allowed on Amtrak however, you will need to make a reservation as they only allow four bikes per train. We just made reservations from St. Louis to Sedalia and then from Jefferson City to St. Louis. One way coach seats for the two of us is $64 and 2 bicycles are $20.

Where can you park long-term at the Sedalia Amtrak station? Cheap or free?

Anonymous on 09/19/2019 10:04 AM:
Don't know about an Amtrak parking location, but have parked at the Katy Depot lot for several days. It is free. Leave your name, phone, and car info at the depot desk just in case. Have done so on several occasions without incident.
