I believe this restaurant is permanently closed. Can someone confirm?
Ray (webmaster) on 03/04/2021 07:46 PM:
LS, thanks for the heads-up. Google says it's permanently closed, and Google is usually right about this sort of thing, so I have removed the listing.

I needed some protein halfway through a Sunday Katy Trail ride, and this place was a good stop. On Sunday, they open at 8:30 AM, which worked for my schedule. Other eating establishments in this area open late on Sunday (like 11:00 AM). They have a breakfast buffet for their overnight guests, and this is available to anyone else also. The buffet included fruit, juice, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast, potatoes, biscuits, etc. With coffee, my bill came to about $14 and was well worth it.

This Place has the worst steaks I have ever tasted. The canned green beens and potato were not microwaved all the way thru. The person workning even had a heads up from the inn were we stayed that we would be in for a GOOD steak. I will neve eat at this place again!
Billy from Mokane on 02/21/2012 12:45 PM:
Tell us about your bike ride Rocky, what places did you enoy eating at while on the trail?

This place just ruined my whole weekend! We thought we'd take a small break from the trail, but after lunch I spent most of my time in the bathroom. Had to call a cab to pick me up cause my pants were ruined! And they charged me way too much! Unless you hate weekends, don't go here!

Sounds like a fake report by someone who has an old boy friend working there.
Micky Z from Carbondale IL on 06/21/2011 09:00 PM:
Might be fake but I had similar experience last fall after eating food at this same location.
Doug from Bluffton on 06/21/2011 11:37 PM:
Similar in what way? Neither of you say what happened. Did you get sick from the food, the trots, spill something on you? Were you overcharged or do you feel the cost was too high? Just blank accusations with no substance don't help anyone and do hurt the business. Posting a legitimate complaint is one thing, but do it honestly, with specific details and in a manner that the business person can address either through an apology, an explanation, a defense, or tell you to urinate vertically on a manila line.

IBS is a function of the type or kind of food eaten that acts as a trigger and not where it is eaten.
Micky Z from Carbondale, IL on 06/27/2011 10:47 AM:
I apologize that my comment was so vague. I made an assumption that the first person that commented got a bad case of diarrhea. My bad for assuming. Let me clarify. Your place gave me a bad case of diarrhea. I had to stop at every restroom I passed on the way back home. I had no interest in contacting you about this. The best course of action for me is to never go there again. So if you want to tell me to go pee on a vanilla line thats ok but I will not do it because I do not know what that means.
Jim from St Thomas on 06/27/2011 12:52 PM:
Manila line....not vanilla line. I think he was telling you to "go pi$$ up a rope".
Doug from Bluffton on 06/27/2011 03:46 PM:
Boy you are just batting a thousand here. Another bad assumption in that I have no connection with Ashley's Rose, I simply rose to their defense and told you what a part of their response might be. I am well aware of the family nature of this website and tried to phrase accordingly.
Anonymous on 06/27/2011 05:31 PM:
If you had a problem with any establishment, no matter where or what it was, and you honestly had no interest in contacting them about poor service, contaminated food, etc., why do you have interest in bringing it up on a forum that was unrelated to the food industry. If it meant nothing to you that you were ill treated, then why show up here? You would probably be more effective letting the establishment know at the point of service instead of making yourself look like a fool much latter here. But you did. Twice.
Dotty from hartsburg on 07/11/2011 06:06 PM:
Thanks for standing up for one of the businesses on the trail Doug! We are all having a hard time right now and don't need bad reviews. If sometinig was wrong at my Cafe I would like to know about it myself first, rather than read about it. That's not really fair to the restaurant.By the way, Thanks to all of you who stop at Dotty's, We welcome you!!!!

This place was terrible! Way over-priced. Small portions. I ordered the meat and cheese tray. The cheese was old and tasted gross. My boyfriend ordered the turkey club, which was awful as well.
Michele from Chicago on 08/17/2007 12:14 PM:
We ate lunch here because nothing else was open. The food was average. Service was fine. People were friendly. No problems. Not gourmet, but adequate.

I had dinner here with three friends. We originally weren't going to visit here, due to the bad reviews on this site, however, the augusta brewery was much too overpriced for the small portion sizes and limited menu. ALL 4 OF US WERE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED by our meals at Ashley's Rose. Our waitress was friendly, and the food was delicious. We had the burgers, chicken sandwich and fried chicken, and satisfied with all. We were very happy to have gone despite the bad reviews. Don't be dissuaded from coming here, trust me, the brewery is not worth it at all.

We stayed at the wonderful Red Brick Inn. Unfortunately, there is not much choice for dinner in Augusta in May and we made the wrong choice. We should have eaten at the brewery, as Ashley's Rose was not good.

We had dinner at this resturant Wednesday night. It was terrible. The food was gross and overpriced and the service was terrible. Save your money.
However, Jeanette at The Globe Hotel in Hartsburg was amazing!! If you're passing through or planning a trip, you need to spend a night in Hartsburg. The Hitching Post has good food and company, the bike shop is friendly, and Jeanette makes these amazing muffins. It was the best experience of our whole trip.
The people in Clinton were really rude the night we spent there. They yelled at us for riding on the shoulder and stared at us while we ate dinner (we weren't even in lycra).
Herman was a great town, though. Everyone was amazingly friendly and nice. The Stonehill Winery Resturant was the best meal that we had. It was expensive, but well worth the $$$. If you plan on treating yourself, this is the place to do it. Great food and great service.
savage24 from KC MO on 04/03/2005 07:20 AM:
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Ashley's Rose Restuarant. Where did you stay between Hartsburg and Clinton? How was it?
Sarah from Little Rock on 04/03/2005 08:49 PM:
We stayed at the Safari Motel in Clinton, the Best Western in Sedalia, and the Comfort Inn in Booneville, which has almost direct access from the trail and a shuttle to the casino. Then we stayed at the Globe Hotel in Hartsburg, which was amazing and the Lindenhof in Augusta. The Lindenhof has nice rooms, a hot tub, jacuzzi's in the rooms, walking access to the winery and brewery, and a tasty stuffed french toast for breakfast. All in all, it was a great vacation. We're considering the organized ride in June, as well.

In September 2003, I rode the Katy Trail. Spent the night at Ashley's Rose (bed and breakfast) in Augusta. Had a nice French Dip sandwich for dinner, and a great breakfast. They even fixed my breakfast a bit early, as I wanted to get an early start.
Only odd thing about this bed and breakfast, no one lived at the facility. The owners left at 7:00pm, gave me a key to the front door, told me to lock myself in at night.
Only bad thing about Augusta, I had to ride up a long, steep hill to get there.
John from West Plains on 01/19/2006 02:49 PM:
Dont get me started on Jeanette's muffins. We really enjoyed staying there. That whole town is great. Give Jeanette a hug on the way out!

I work at Ashleys Rose Restaurant and Inn in Augusta Missouri. If you have eaten there and think that the service was bad then you should be telling me.
But you probley did in the tip that you gave me. I have worked there for 10 years and have meet so pretty smelly people off of the trail. the only reason the you wold get bad service is if you are ignorant to me. If you thought that the service was bad then you have probley never been a server.

I ate lunch at Ashley's Rose Restaurant in Augusta back in 2000 while on a solo bike ride. It was very nice. Hopefully some one else with more recent experience will chime in! Happy Anniversary!

We ate at Ashley Rose last week and it was fabulous. Warning: this is the only restaurant open on weekdays in Augusta and it closes at 7:00pm. We almost went hungry.
