Doll House Bed & Breakfast
Sharon Leve on 11/08/2022 02:29 PM:
I stayed at the Doll House Bed & Breakfast on my trip from Clinton to Machens. I traveled 86 miles from Boonville where I had stayed the night before, what a beautiful ride. Melissa and her husband were very accommodating on my arrival time and made suggestions for food along the way, as there isn’t anything in Rhineland to eat. She even offered to pick up anything I wanted to eat. The B&B is very well equipped and lovely. It’s very comfortable and the chocolate chip cookies Melissa puts out upon your arrival we’re a very welcome delight. The bed is comfortable and I was even able to do laundry. The breakfast was huge and delicious. I highly recommend staying here. And if you need food before staying here for the night I suggest stopping at Holhauzer’s in Portland about 10 miles before you get to Rhineland, cold beer, nice people and some great friends food! Delish!!!

A most enjoyable stay. Lovely porch upstairs and patio garden. Fresh-baked cookies, Keurig coffee and tea, comfortable bed and delicious breakfast. Also the owners are very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Access to washer/dryer also a plus.

My personal favorite stay during our six day adventure. Ken and Melissa were excellent hosts. Greeted with cookies and cold beverages.
Breakfast was fantastic! Enjoyed the upstairs porch and garden patio in the evening. Priced right. Will definitely return!

Very nice experience. The hosts were quite accommodating of our high maintenance group of eight cyclists. Clean, excellent breakfast, and shuttle service to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

We were a group of four last week and it was pouring down rain when we got to The Doll House. Hosts - Ken & Melissa were very accommodating and the rooms were great. Loved the Doterra diffuser too:-) Melissa made an awesome breakfast spread!

My sister and I stayed at the Doll House during a recent trip on the Katy. Melissa was super nice and offers rides into Hermann for anyone interested. We had heard from someone who stayed years ago that there were dolls in the decor. This is not true today. The place is decorated nicely, very comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was awesome! We would definitely recommend staying at the Doll House.

Ken & Missy are AMAZING hosts! Great place to stay. They are extremely hospitable and thoughtful. We got a call while on our bikes about 30 minutes from Rhineland. They called to inquire about our plans for dinner, because the local bar & grill across the street closes early on Sundays. They informed us of a local church that serves lunch to the community and drove over and picked up two meals for us (delicious fried chicken, homemade sides, and some great pies)! They also had fresh baked goods, bottled water, and lemonade for us. They even got up early to make us HOT, delicious, breakfast when we wanted so we could get an early start on the next leg of our bike tour. When you stay with Ken & Missy, it’s more like staying with friends.

Can’t say enough good things about these guys! Make sure you plan your trip on the KATY around a stop at the Doll House!

I stayed at the Doll House September 13th and Kenny and Missy could not be more accommodating. Because I'm walking the trail they went out of their way to help me get from my car to my starting point; not once but twice! And their stuffed French toast is to die for (and I'm not a French toast fan)! Great place to stay,

It sounds like there are new owners...and that they are as helpful as Amanda and her family were when I have stayed there several different times in the past. Cool.

Great place. Kenny and Missy were wonderful. We arrived a bit late on a Sunday and Trailside Bar and Grill was closed. No problem they fed us.

This place has some new owners - Ken and Missy - but they are awesome! Very accommodating, very nice, super friendly. And Ken cooks a mean breakfast.

Just to reiterate what some of the other posts have already mentioned about the place itself - right off the trail, great rooms, super interesting old house.

There's really not a lot in old Rhineland, but you'll find all you need at this lovely B&B.

Anonymous on 05/07/2016 05:44 AM:
Cliff did you get the name of the B&B?

cliff from charlotte, nc on 07/08/2016 02:21 PM:
Um, I put it under the Doll House thread. Is there a way you can get to it otherwise???

Ray (webmaster) on 07/08/2016 02:54 PM:
Cliff - thank you for sharing your experience. Actually most people see these posts on the Comment Forum (http://www.bikekatytrail.com/forum.aspx). Regardless of what page you were on when you wrote the post, they all appear in the Forum. Unfortunately this sometimes leads to confusion when a business is not referenced by name. Sometimes I try to add something to the subject line or add a tag to identify the business when it's unclear, but sometimes I miss them.

Again, your input is greatly appreciated. Happy trails!

We stayed at The Doll House on May 24, 2016. Boy was it a welcome sight for our tired legs after riding over 40 miles that day. It is very easy to find and right when you get there you are made to feel very welcome. Ken & Melissa are some of the nicest Inn Keepers we have ever meet. They have only been Inn Keepers for about 8 weeks and boy do they roll out the red carpet for you!! When they took us upstairs to show us our room they also had fresh lemonade and slices of cake for us to enjoy. They also provide several flavors of coffee, popcorn & crackers. Our room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. Our private bathroom was right outside of our room and it was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was yummy (so so good) and very filling and plenty of it. Thanks Ken & Melissa for having such a spirit of hospitality. Loved, Loved everything about our stay. I highly recommend The Doll House!!!

Holly cow, what a fantastic place....coupled with really, really, wonderful Amanda, and her husband Jeff. In my opinion, this was THE PLACE to stay, not only because it is absolutely cute with wonderful design/thought...The host Amanda was a superior host...and we briefly met Jeff, a 'cool' hard working guy. Not only did we get a wonderful welcome, but breakfast was fantastic. Note that I left my bike water bottle when we left to continue our bike ride, and Amanda kept at it till she reached us by phone. She promised and DID MAIL it to our home. In our opinion, the was one of the best hosts we met, and greatly enjoyed our down-to-earth real conversations. WE WILL DEFINITELY visit again....if we are that way on bikes. Thanks Amanda, and good luck on your 'retirement' from some of your workload.

I can't say enough good things about this place. Tidy, tasteful, perfectly put together and well considered (the lavender bath salts were lovely), fantastic hosts, top notch mattress and bedding, and a delicious breakfast. This is my favorite place we've stayed on the trail. This is the way to do a B&B.

We stayed at the Doll House when riding the trail, and had a wonderful experience there. Beautifully-restored building, with all the modern conveniences. Spotlessly clean. Service way beyond any reasonable expectation. Restaurant nearby was very good.

I had a great time staying at the Doll House B&B. The place is clean and well kept. Amanda was a very friendly host and was willing to cook almost anything for me for breakfast. Anyone spending the night in Rhineland should seriously consider staying at the Doll House.

I have stayed here more than once with VERY positive reviews as well. I can also name 6 different friends who have stayed with Amanda as well...and all have been pleased. I wish the food was a little better at the cafe/bar across the street, but it is what it is...and it is ok for one night.

Super place to stay from the Katy Trail. A wonderful old home recently updated with all modern conveniences make this a very comfortable place to stay. Amanda loves to cook and it shows! She was such a nice host. The weather forecast was bad for our next day, so Amanda took us in her car to our next stop. We look forward to staying here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Dollhouse our first night out on the trail, Monday 09/19/11. It was a rough day for me (complete with a nice fall about 1-1/2 miles from Rhineland), we arrived much later than expected, and Amanda was so very gracious and welcoming. She knew I was hurting and immediately offered up fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies, the Jacuzzi tub, and her homemade bath salts to soothe my aching body and psyche. The next morning she served up a HUGE, delicious breakfast, and even packed up the left-over fresh fruit for us to take on the trail. When we arrived Monday evening, I honestly didn't think I would be able to face the rest of the trail, but after a comfortable stay at the Dollhouse and Amanda's wonderful breakfast, I was able to complete 48 miles the next day in pretty fine fashion. A giant thanks to Amanda (and Jeff, who we only briefly met, but he seemed very nice as well).

We stayed here Mother's Day weekend, and had such a wonderful time! I just can't say enough nice things about it! There were five of us in all, and every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The rooms we very clean and comfortable, breakfast was simply delicious, and the owners were so sweet and accomodating, that we stayed quite a while after breakfast talking to them before we started our ride back. They even gave us the phone number of a bike shop that delivers tires when we called to tell them that we had a blowout on the way to the B&B. It worked out perfectly, and we're looking forward to staying there again in the near future. My husband and I have stayed at many B&B's over the years, but this was by far one of the best experiences we have ever had at one. I highly recommend it!

Our stay at the Doll House was fantastic, as expected from all of the prior comments. Amanda was a great hostess, and her extensixe breakfast was welcome before hitting the trail for a big day's riding. The rooms are immaculate and the beds very comfortable. The balcony is a must for dusk sundowners and dawn coffee - the photos don't do the place justice. Highly recommended.

We stopped at the Doll House when we passed through Rhineland (March 2010) and I highly recommend it. The house was beautiful and Amanda was SO NICE! She helped us plan out our next few days on the trail and suggested the bar and grill across the street. (We were pretty hungry!)I plan on staying there when I bike the trail again some day with my parents.

Oct. 5-09 The Doll House lived up to the reviews. Amanda was a superb hostess. We piggy backed with the family who stayed there that night too as they ordered chicken and dumplings for supper. Great stuff! The cost was very resonable @ $10/person for supper. Breakfast was equally fantastic. We were met with a warm smile and plenty of cookies, coffee, and lemonade. The washing of our clothes was a GIANT +. We would not be hesitant to stay again should the schedule put us there. Thank you Amanda for a great stay.

Amanda - the amazing host!

Unfortunately, the owners of the Trailside Bar & Grill (across the highway from the Doll House B&B) were on vacation the day we arrived in Rhineland. Amanda knew we were hungry after a 50-mile day and offered to pick-up pizza from the local store a few miles away.

We had the house to ourselves. We ate pizza, watched a movie downstairs, then retreated to The Bunny Room for a restful night's sleep. Oh yeah - breakfast was incredible!

Doll House B&B, Rhineland 30 May 2008. Biking with two teen age grandsons from Sedalia to St. Charles. One of us had a blowout 2 ½ miles from Rhineland. Sidewall of the tire with a one inch hole. We walked the last two and a half miles on a warm afternoon and were met with the best lemonade we have ever tasted. Amanda was a gracious and kind hostess. A great breakfast. Highly recommended. We would stay there again.

Thank you, Amanda, for a wonderful B&B! The rooms were perfect, and the entire home was beyond charming and spacious. The perfect respite for a pair of worn-out bikers.

Macho men shouldn't be put off by the "Doll" name. Ask Amanda the history behind it. Hey, I stayed in the Bunny room and lived to tell about it - my son has forgotten to kid me about it. Seriously, we would stay here again on the road in a heartbeat.

The next morning, we left reluctantly, because a human being only has so much room for such a fantastic breakfast!

Well done Amanda and family.

We rode in from Jefferson City, arrived around 4:30pm. The room was cozy and peaceful, we

were able to take a quick shower and nice nap before walking to the resturaunt to eat. The

breakfast was wonderful with plenty of bacon, sausage, french toast and omlet. Great orange

juice. Very peaceful accomodations, was only awaken by the smell of bacon cooking.

Memorial Day 2005 trip: Amanda fixed us breakfast an hour before her regular schedule when we told her we wanted to hit the trail early. And what a great breakfast! Truly a wonderful stay -- and right on the trail. Nice to stay in a place that is so clearly tied to the Katy experience. I was happy that we skipped Hermann lodging (which was full anyway) for Rhineland!
