It is a new B & B. Clean very nice and located behind Cafe Napolils. It is 2 blocks from the trail and the Missouri River Bridge.

Any comments regarding camping at the city park in Hermann this October on a Sunday? A group of us are planning to do this. We were recently were told that because of Octoberfest, it will be very noisy, with a lot of drunks, somewhere we'll enjoy being & that riding across the bridge will be very dangerous. Has anyone out there camped here on a Sunday evening in October?

Octoberfest and Katy Trail bikers do not mix well. The traffic is unmanageable when traveling by bike. The city campground is bare bones and will be filled with drunks and hooligans. The facilities are pretty rustic when not getting much use. I can only imagine what they would be like with hundreds of party goers.
If camping, your best option is at Steamboat Junction in Bluffton. If you want to sample the food and drink at Octoberfest in Hermmann...get a ride from a local and leave the bike at the campgound.

On a Sunday, you'll probably be just fine in the City Park. The Octoberfest partiers are really there on Friday and Saturday nights.
I have also camped at a place just off the trail north of the river; about 5 miles away from Hermann -- much quieter.

Hermann is doing its best to control the problem they've had with drunks... It is much better than it once was however to get there on bike from the trail is VERY dangerous!!!! You'll have to cross a busy narrow bridge... There is a shuttle service whose number is (hopefully still there) on the bullitin board at the Mckittrick trail head... Not cheap, but much safer to get across bridge...

I am feeling pretty bad about what I posted about Rocheport. I feel I need to clarify.
Rocheport and the surrounding area were the most beautiful section of the trail, imho. My
original statement was referring to acitvities and such, not the town or area.
Some poster responded asking what made Oklahoma special. I imagine it would be the
same with Missouri: different parts are nice, others are not.
I like Missouri and particularly the KATY area.
Sorry if it hurt anyone's feelings.

If you need something he probably has it, including snacks, drinks, ice cream. Very helpful place and nice to talk with. It's Rendleman Home and they do serve meals but you need to call ahead so they can prepare.

They usually peak around the second to third week of October, but seem to be running a little late this year.

We were at Katfish Katy's this weekend. It was a nice little convenience store and it looked like there was some camping available closer to the river. I thought that there would be catfish, but no food served.

I was camped there on Oct 18th. I arrived just before sunset, the only other people there were two women on bikes. We had a lovely camping area along the river, nice flat areas for tents, picnic tables, and shade trees for summer.The view of the river was great. The bathrooms were clean, and the showers hot. And the company was good, we exchanged many stories. I learned some new things.

parking suggestions and how to get to the trail from the St Louis area.
Mile marker signs appear every mile, just like on a highway. Check out this page for
mileage between towns - there's also a column that tells you what mile marker each town is located it.
Too late in the year? October is a great time! Temperatures are nice, and the trees are finally starting to turn colors. It's the best time to be out on the trail.
You'll love the Katy Trail - come on out and have some fun.

big jon, me and my wifey ride the trail occasionally. we either go to the historic district of st. charles which is off the fifth st exit of I-70 just across the blanchette bridge and ride west bound from there, or we take high 40 up to highway 94, go south on 94, and go to defiance and ride from there. i personally think it is prettier from defiance west then from st. charles west. these would be the 2 closests i think. this would be a fantastic time of yr to ride. cooler weather, and the colors have to fantastic. happy ridin, frank

My husband and I stayed here over the summer and I was very impressed. The room was very cozy(homelike). The Breakfast was the best yet but better than all was the place. The store has pretty much anything you could need from Deli sandwichs, ice cream,lunch specials, soda and pizza. Theres something for everyone and after a long trail ride it's so nice to come into the store and get something cold to drink and some food and not have to go to a bar. Her (Barb's) prices are very reasonable food and room and she is a very knowledgable women. She can carry on a conversation very well. She told my husband and I how the store has been around since 1800's and has been through many many floods and i think that is a reason it is so special. If your ever in the area and need a place to stay i reccommend Peers Store for the caring people, reasonablr prices and you won't leave without learning something new.

Theres something for everyone and after a long trail ride it's so nice to come into the store and get something cold to drink and some food and not have to go to a bar. Her (Barb's) prices are very reasonable food and room and she is a very knowledgable women. She can carry on a conversation very well. She told my husband and I how the store has been around since 1800's and has been through many many floods and i think that is a reason it is so special. If your ever in the area and need a place to stay i reccommend Peers Store for the caring people, reasonablr prices and you won't leave without learning something new.

Very glad to see your comment. We are to stay over on Oct. 18th. My phone conversation for the reservation, was very comfortable which led me to believe that even though age may be on the facilities, that yet it would be comfortable.
