Les Lavandes B&B in Rhineland

The place was a wonderful surprise-like finding a 2 carat diamond in a bag of coal dust. Stuck 2 miles away from the trail in farm country I expected a simple basic old farmhouse. What I found instead was a beautiful place in a serene setting with sophisticated European flavor. My husband and I were biking the Katy Trail and decided to ride the 2 miles from the trail to the B&B. Lucky for us we arrived just in time for high tea. Myrta and Richard were gracious hosts welcoming us to join them even though we were hot, dusty, and probably a little smelly. What a treat! A great selection of teas, carmel walnut tart, lavender cookies, chocolate raspberry truffles, and lavender ice cream. All hand made by Myrta. Breakfast was just as fabulous. Our room was beautiful. Well worth the 2 mile ride from the trail.

Ha, I am just reading some wonderful feed backs from long ago. Too late to say thank you? I hope it is never too late.
We are keeping our 2 Suites open, the French and Swiss, for the spring and fall season.
Maybe we will see you again this year?
Greetings, Richard and Myrta

Les Lavandes is a wonderful place to stay. My husband and I bicycled the Katy Trail in the Fall of 2016 and enjoyed immensely the 2 mile ride through lovely foothills to the community of Rhineland with its beautiful stone church and peaceful Les Lavandes. The 2 miles are hilly but Richard and Myrta had offered to pick us up if needed. We declined the lift but I did push my bike up the last stretch of the final hill. We joined Myrta and Richard for afternoon tea complete with delicious, delicate chocolates, truffles, lavender cookies and lavender ice cream, all made and presented beautifully by Myrta. We soaked in the hot tub beneath the stars in the evening, slept soundly in our very comfortable bed, and awoke to bird songs in the morning. Breakfast was tasty and filling. Les Lavandes is not to be missed when you bike the Katy. It is absolutely lovely.

Anne, thank you so much for taking the time to write. We so enjoy spoiling our guests and it gives us tremendous pleasure to feel that especially KT guests like you are well rested and equipped to continue their journey. Indeed, we feel blessed to have found this little heaven on earth, called Starkenburg. Look forward to seeing you some other time. Myrta and Richard

Myrta, I thought that you and Richard had retired from the B&B. Patti and I will try to schedule a stay in 2018. We certainly enjoyed our previous stays.

So good to hear from so many people who still want to come visit Les Lavandes.
We have decided to keep Les Lavandes Suites (French and Swiss Suites) open during the spring and fall season. We would love to see you!

What a lovely experience. Richard and Myrta were wonderful hosts. The accomodations were perfect and the fool!!! Well, no words can describe. One word of caution to cyclists, if you've already ridden several miles that day, you may want to have Richard come to Rhineland to pick you up instead of riding out to their place. It's a grueling 2 miles, mostly up hill. I was pooped!!! Of course, Myrta made up for it by fixing us the most delicious dinner I have ever eaten!!! Thanks Richard and Myrta for a lovely stay.

Was Richard equipped to take 4 bikes up the hill?

This place has the most breathtaking views all around the property. Our room was just lovely and relaxing.

If you are able to visit when Myrta has the High tea take advantage of it. It was wonderful! Breakfast was just fabulous. I look forward to visiting again very soon.

A fantastic, quiet, down to earth, home in the country, with great atmosphere, food, accommodations and people. Have Richard pick you up at the trail and enjoy the ride down the hill in the morning. It gets your legs back quickly. Relax in the hot tub, take a shower, catch lightning bugs, smell the lavender, watch the yellow finches feed, play washers, and swing on the porch swing while looking at the rolling hills. In the morning you will have a fresh, healthy, delicious, home made breakfast that you will not forget. Myrta's Swiss upbringing adds charm to her home atmosphere and food. Highly recommend for a unique and memorable experience that is hard to find anymore.
