Trail Closure West of Marthasville
Andrew from Monett on 05/06/2026 12:44 PM:
Does anyone have any information on the status of the Charlette Creek bridge west of Marthasville? MO State Parks has the bridge listed as closed. In the past, I've always found ways across a bridge-out without going much (if at all) off the trail. Has anyone ridden this since 4/19?
"Part of the Katy Trail from mile post 79.40 to mile post 79.60 is under the following advisory:
Closed: Due to storm damage the bridge at Fallen Timber is CLOSED.
Start:4/19/2026
End:

Darn! That's one of my "go to" rides. Looking at it from an aerial view. I don't see a good way around it. DNR is pretty good at getting these things fixed. I wonder how severe the damage is.

Bumping this up regarding bridge status. Anyone have any insight?
Andrew from Monett on 05/08/2026 01:06 PM:
Yeah, it was easy enough to get past the usual bridge-outs like the Salt Creek bridge-out, but I remember this being "closed" previous years as well. The dropoff at this location would make a traditional ford rather dangerous for even a very capable individual. There's a google street maps image of how high up this bridge is. Assuming it's not a complete wash-out of the bridge, I presume it'll more akin to an "at your own risk" crossing.

I hiked it on Tuesday. It's still out and MO Parks is being very proactive about not letting anyone pass. I had to hike the highway for 3-4 miles until I reached Marthasville. Doable but not ideal.

Are there any directional signs so we know how to bike around it? I’m riding the Katy alone in a few weeks and I want to be prepared for how to go around it. Thanks!

Here is the information that is currently on DNR's website:
Part of the Katy Trail from mile post 79.40 to mile post 79.60 is under the following advisory:
Closed: Due to storm damage the bridge at Fallen Timber is CLOSED.
Start:4/19/2026, 7:00 PM
End:
Since the "End" time is blank, I'm guessing it hasn't been repaired yet.
I've travelled that KATY stretch numerous times. It looks to me that the route you will need to take is the 4 mile stretch on Highway 94 between Peers Store and Highway 47/94 in Marthasville. I don't know of any other way around it.

Are there any detour signs or do you just go 47 south to 94 west straight out of Marthasville? How bad is morning traffic on that route?
RT in KC from Kansas City on 05/17/2026 12:19 PM:
We just rode it last Tuesday. You need to get on hwy 94 at Peers from the West and get off at Marthesville. Do the opposite if you're coming from the East. That's the only way around unless you want to try going across private land. Have a great ride!
Anne Reed from Glendale on 05/18/2026 12:23 PM:
I’ve already been hit by a car while riding and was seriously injured. So the thought of riding a 4 mile highway stretch is mortifying. Are there any local shuttle services or anyone who wants to make a few bucks to shuttle me from Peers Store to Marthasville? I know the day I’ll be riding it so I could actually schedule a time. Thanks!

I just read on the Katy Trail Group that the bridge is open for use now, they just ask for caution crossing it while they continue permanent repairs.
Gary from Near Tebbetts on 05/18/2026 03:03 PM:
P.S.
There are strong thunderstorms moving through Callaway county now with flash flood warnings today and tomorrow. Be careful out there, watch for trail washouts and seek shelter if you are riding today and tomorrow.

Looking for a place to park a vehicle for 10 days in Marthasville. Is it safe to overnight park at the trailhead? Other suggestions?
