Stopped by the Sedalia Trailhead Depot and, specifically, the Champion Bicycles shop.

Bought a drink and candy bar and talked with the owner. Great location. Shop/owner can definitely address any cycling repair issues as well as tips/suggestions on Sedalia or the Katy Trail.

Doesn't hurt to be sure of your directions and/or to ask if coming from Amtrak. Seemed to me like they were a couple signs short that would have been really helpful in the rain.

Along those same lines, if you do long term parking at the Sedalia fairgrounds, or community college, it's a longer bike ride than you think to return to your car from the Amtrak station. Especially in the dark. Luckily you can take the trail most of the way.

So what's with the link for the Sedalia Trailhead website? Does everyone else get redirected to SKD Auto Glass? Not very informative.

This link works:

Must be a broken link here.

Visit this beautifully restored architectural gem if you can fit it in (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) This was the region's commercial and social center, the "mall" of the 1890's. Great trail memorabilia, historic books and displays and helpful staff to get the seasoning of the MKT. If you want a souvenir, this (or their website) is the best stop.

The lady at the Katy Depot was very informative and helpful. Being novices to the trail and to this part of Missouri, we needed much information. Thanks to her, we had a wonderful first day on the trail and several great meals at local establishments.

June 24, 2010- On our journey to ride the entire Katy Trail from St. Charles to Clinton, we were greeted by several smiling faces and welcoming handshakes as we crossed the Trailhead line. We joined the 10th anniversary Katy Trail ride and Sedalia was the only town with a BIG welcoming committee; Lots of cheers, food and drink for all to enjoy! It quite a treat and really made you feel like you accomplished something. All of the hotels were booked and a Sheep convention was in town so we had to stay south of town, which required riding our bikes on the highway (not too safe). The sweetest lady working at the Trail-head Depot and Chamber of Commerce, I think named Katie, was so kind to drive us in her pickup to the hotel because she was concerned about the traffic. We can’t thank her enough!

If you purchase something from the depot, the kind lady there will mail it to your home address for a $1 handling fee. We were so glad to mail back excess weight while at the same time get tee shirts for the grandchildren. We got rid of nine pounds of weight from our bikes!

Is there an existing list of employees roster from the 30's and 40's? My father(Roy(Raul)Ramirez) was a track supervisor of a track laying team from Katy to Sedalia. The paymaster at that time was a Mr. Wendte. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is something you don't want to miss if you like history and a gift shop.
