Leslie Cantrell from Cole Camp on 12/13/2011 09:25 PM:
Wonderful Employer! One man who works for them told my husband he drew a disabled pension and gets paid cash with no income taxes taken out, my husband works 2 part time jobs and is now trying to draw disability, if he gets his disability he is going to work for this company. Kudos to this Company!

Gary from Near Tebbetts on 12/14/2011 01:23 AM:
Any Katy Trail bikers out there from the IRS?

Doug from Bluffton on 12/14/2011 08:28 AM:
No kidding! Are you mad at them Leslie?

Anonymous on 12/14/2011 09:04 AM:
Working two part time jobs and wanting to draw disability so he can go to work somewhere else?

How does being diabled fit into that equation?

Anonymous from Creston,Iowa on 12/15/2011 12:17 PM:
I bet there is a faded "Hope & Change" bumper sticker on her car.

Anonymous on 12/15/2011 09:13 PM:
Seriously? Can this post possibly be serious?

Chris from centralia IL on 12/16/2011 08:07 PM:
You do reailze that I am (and the other working people in America) are paying his bills?

Pam O from Independence on 12/17/2011 01:28 PM:
Do you also realize that with the employee not withholding taxes this makes our payroll taxes increase in future?? Leslie I don't think you thought this one out. This could put this company in deep water with the feds.

Doug from Bluffton on 12/17/2011 10:56 PM:
maybe they will be too busy discussing working while on disability, with her husband.

Taxpayer from Ark on 12/18/2011 09:52 AM:
This lady is the perfect voice for life in the USA now. She serioulsly beleives that "They" or "The Government" owes her. It's sad that personal responsibility has been replaced by finding ways to beat the system. She, and her husband are 1) parasites, 2) the reason we need tax reform, 3) the reason we need entitlement reform. On another note, I hope to spend quite a bit of my free time on the Katy this year :)

1% from American on 12/18/2011 10:43 AM:
Does this lady realize that the Katy was built largely with $ donated by greedy Wall St. bankers? Thank you Mr. Jones........

Jim from St Louis on 12/18/2011 11:43 AM:
I originally thought this person had a beef with Victory Shuttle and was trying to get even. But maybe this has become the pervasive way in the USA--where's my free lunch.

Anonymous on 12/19/2011 09:15 PM:
apparently, not many of you know just how much disablity pays. not much. i believe it is less than 2/3rd's your normal pay. so before you go and start complaing about his pay and gettin a free lunch, check it out. you might not want it that bad after all. and no, i am not on disability. my hats off to this company for helping out a person who is on disability.

Jim from St Louis on 12/20/2011 08:28 AM:
The comment is not about helping someone in need, it is about doing it honestly, not dishonestly.

Anonymous on 12/21/2011 08:18 PM:
jim, agreed. however, with that said, nobody, and i mean nobody can ever take a cent for helping anyone out without paying any taxes on it. since it is about honesty.

Doug from Bluffton on 12/22/2011 07:34 AM:
Anonymous, that is every bit as sensible as your other comments.

Jim from St Louis on 12/22/2011 08:23 PM:
Anonymus, why do you seem to think it is fine to game the system. Disabled or not what the original post suggested was illegal.

Anonymous on 12/25/2011 03:08 PM:
i apologize to both jim and doug.
i am NOT attempting to game the system as was suggested. yes what was done is illegal, no one suggested it wasnt. i only suggested making a little cash under the table to help pay bills is against your liking. sorry i offended you.

so sorry my comments make no sense to you. if you understood them you would agree. my point was that if you were complaining about the disabled individual take a few bucks under the table, then you or anyone else that agrees with you can never ever take a cent for helping some one in need. whether it be gasoline , money, etc. that would simply be illegal also. so sorry it made no sense to you, like my other comments did.

again so sorry i offended the both of you.

Not Anon on 12/27/2011 10:49 AM:
Your logic is greatly flawed. Wiki says about "cash under the table" Unreported employment, often referred to colloquially as working or being paid under the table or cash-in-hand, is employment not reported to the state. This is often done by the employer or the employee in order to evade tax or circumvent other laws.

Lets see here. I repair your bike tube out on the Katy because you don't have a repair kit and are "in need" of help. You give me 5 bucks for helping you out. Nothing was done to circumvent the law or to avoid taxes. Helping someone in need, does not make one and employer. It makes them a nice person.

But your logic tells us that it was illegal for me to accept your $5?

There'll be some warm days soon. Perhaps a walk or ride on the trail for some fresh air is in order.

Doug from Bluffton on 12/30/2011 09:40 PM:
Anonymous you are just as sensible as ever.

Cunninghamair from St louis on 12/31/2011 04:31 PM:
I understand disability is a strain. However, "kudos" for an employer not paying taxes? So I guess I'm stupid for paying taxes? It's this attitude that puts a strain on the honest, law-abiding citizens that pay their fair share.

wltrmtty from Wisconsin on 01/01/2012 04:08 PM:
An employee may be defined as:

"A person in the service of another under any contract of hire, express or implied, oral or written, where the employer has the power or right to control and direct the employee in the material details of how the work is to be performed."

Not Anon, if I help a stranded anyone or maybe help a friend move (so they don't have to pay a mover) and they buy me gas and pizza, that is employment??!?? Good grief!

Anonymous on 01/09/2012 10:42 AM:
The IRS needs to check this so called company out for they do do this I know for a fact. They let their drivers not claim what they make ONLY their KCI (airport) runs are claimed. I have seen this. They even say they claim the airport runs. The company hire drivers who work for themselves on days they are off so the person working doesn't give the taxi company the cut they are suppose to. This has been seen also. This company is suppose to be christians but let me say that they are NOT. I know this for a fact how they have treated me plus alot of other fares they get, make people 45 minutes late to work and things like that.

My father told me that anybody who lies on their tax return has established themself as a liar and you should keep this in mind with any dealings.

Owner. on 05/28/2013 09:19 AM:
I would like to respond to the above even though it has been a while back. The driver that made the statement (s) that started all this didn't work all kinds of part time jobs.
Lastly the company name has been changed to A + Victory Shuttle, we arw no longer ado
2Nd He/She was private contractor & was responsible for his/hers own taxes. Whether he/she did or didnot file correctly is between them & the IRS.
That driver no longer drives for the company.
The federal government does allow a person on disability to work & earn up to $700-$800 a month extra without loosing any disabilitybbenefits & that includes their monthly benefit amount.

katy trail Tim from Lees Summit on 01/17/2017 06:02 AM:
I was thinking maybe the guy does not have a mastercard reader and 3.5% fee was too much to deal with in a very part time job. Well checks can be iffy so cash it is and he can and report it so he can deduct mileage on the van.

You have the right to remain silent... just don't have the ability.

Good one Gary. Wish I'd have thought of that.

My bad, looked at the wrong posting date when I responded. Glad to honor Ron White's wisdom, did not know he monitored this site. Very impressive.

Called today. Current charge for one ride & one bike is $70 to get from Sedalia to Clinton.

PTM from St. Louis on 09/09/2016 08:20 AM:
We picked up a shuttle in Sedalia for Clinton ib 09/02/16. Two bikes and a trailer. We thought the shuttle would be a van or at least a pull behind trailer, but it was a small sedan and a small bike rack that only held two bikes. Luckily the trailer fit in the trunk! Was not very comfortable with the bike tie down arrangements and the old, broken bike rack. Cost was $70. Advice is to ask the shuttle service how they plan to transport the bikes if you have concern. Nice driver, enjoyable ride, just was not too satisfied with the bike shuttle arrangements. Good luck.

Gary from Near Tebbetts on 09/10/2016 01:46 AM:
You know, when I volunteered shuttles when part of the trail was closed, I would ask what kind of bikes I needed to shuttle, I would get replies "normal bikes" and when I picked them up, they would be all kinds of weird bikes that did not fit well on my racks. It is very important that people give accurate discriptions of their bikes and other special needs such as trailers etc. I made made it work, but it would have been best for both parties if the people wanting shuttles would communicate accurate information. Just my two cents, take I or leave it.

In July 2008, we rode Amtrak from Kirkwood to Sedalia, having made arrangements with Victory Shuttle to drive us and our bikes to Clinton to begin our trip. When we arrived in Sedalia, we called Crystal, our driver (we'd called the day before to confirm, which is a good idea) and she picked us up in less than 30 minutes. She was a good driver, a very engaging young woman, and we enjoyed our conversation with her on the short drive to the trail's beginning.
