Wow, so sorry to hear about your injuries. I have encountered dogs on the trail, but fortunately none that were aggressive chasers! Now, my in town riding is a different story. Thanks for the tip as we will be down that way next month. Speedy Recovery!

Not sure if it is an organized ride or just events at particular locations. Looks like quite a bit going on at the listed location especially Jeff City. I'm planning to be out on the trail riding and camping next week, guess I'll see what's up.

If you are referring to the Mo State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, they do not accept reservations except during the State Fair week in August. There are hundreds of sites and you will have most of them to yourself.

I recommend that you stop at the Mokane Bar and Grill in Mokane. We came from Stcharles Mo and was exhausted when we reached Mokane we went in to eat and Mel seen that my wife wasnt doing good from the heat so he put a fan on her and got her a glass of water along with a cold wash cloth. Now Im here to tell you that is service he was truly concerened with her well being. after a bit she cooled down and was much better. My wife didnt eat because she did get to hot but I did and the food was perfect you couldnt ask for a better fish sandwich. Mel also told us we was more than welcome to stay in the lot next to his building or he would take us on to Jefferson city to a Hotel. I will always come back to the Mokane bar on every trip we take. As we was leaving to go stay at Tebbets Mel came over with a doggy bag and gave it to my wife and told her she will need to eat later here is a ham and cheese sandwich on him along with two bottles of gatorade. That is truly good service with a friend for life.

Made our 70 mile ride on Saturday 09/23 (Jeff City to Dutzow), but wanted to recommend 2 companies which made it so much easier. Wasn't riding along the Missouri River between McKittrick and Treloar great? There is a section there where you are on a long terraced ledge on the side of a hill 50 feet above the river, and it is just fantastic! On several occasions I have seen bald eagles fishing/getting easy meals in the pools of water that were left in the farmland after the river has gone down in that area: I've stopped, and had several great 10-15 minute "Nature experiences" those times. I have never seen anyone out there, and I'll have to admit, that I like the tension of knowing that I am on my own out there, and I have to get myself back to civilization....whether or not that is actually true :). I hope you got to see some of that too.

Yes, I know exactly where you are talking about and it was indeed beautiful!!! Wish I could have seen some bald eagles too tho, that would have been great! Since we were riding a pretty good distance we left early --- and as I am only 5'5" and was riding with 3 men who are all over 6' I know exactly what you are talking about in regard to being all alone! Ha!!! Their pace is a wee bit faster than mine! Machens to Definace is on my list and then I will have the East covered to Boonville...so love the Katy! We are blessed to have it in our state!

People occasionally ask about shuttles on this forum. I finally got out on the trail Fri. 8-10-12 after over a month of not riding the Katy. I noticed a sign somewhere, either at the North Jefferson Trailhead or Hartsburg Trailhead that advertised the Rhine Valley Limo service. It is not the same as when the previous owners had it open. At all. Food prices went up, and you get less food, like half of what Cynthia's portions were. Ripoff. And they cut the fish in half. I wouldn't waste my time or money on the food.

funny thing is,,,The bar is open and I meet Mel and Kelly really nice people. I also had the fish sandwich and yes it was delicious. The only complaint I heard is the bacon cheese burger was to big....and that was from a fire fighter from Fulton he couldnt get his mouth around it.The place was busy and everyone seem to be having a great time and it looked to be the same or very close to the same prices I also paid 2.50 cents for my beer cindy used to charge me 2.75 when i went in there...so hats off to the new owners I want the bar to stay open and I think they are doing a great job

LOL I feel rather foolish for not knowing the names of the new owners. After looking through the posts here I want to say Thank You! to Tome for posting their names. I don't get out and around Like I used to and I stay several weeks behind on the local news. I need to go drink coffee more often at the Mokane Market to keep up on local events. My problem is that my old body does not want to cooperate that early in the morning.

Visited the Mokane Bar & Grill twice last week on my out and back of the trail. Going east I hac the double bacon cheeseburger and cheese fries. this thing was big enough for a family of four, I had plenty in the doggie bag for a snack later that evening at camp. Going back west I stopped again to get food to go on my way to Tebbets. I got the catfish sandwich and chips. The fish was about twice the size of the huge bun it was on. The new owners are very friendly and personable. I wish them the best of luck.

Jim saved us, our first year on the Katy. The temps were over a 100 degrees and we thought there was a store. We had nothing to eat. We could ride 8 miles each way to get food or just stick it out to the morning. Jim came by and checked on us. He made us some food and set us up with some sandwiches for the morning. I cannot say enough about how great he is.

My husband and I just completed the trail and thought the Hartsburg Inn was perfect for our needs. Cath offered us the garden hose to wash our bikes and clothesline for our laundry. From the station go 1 block south to Capitol Avenue. Go right on Capitol Avenue around the north side of the Capitol Building. When you get to the other side of the Capitol continue west on West Main. When you get to Clay Street (about 3 blocks) you will see the dedicated bike/pedestrian path that takes you across the bridge.

Very friendly town. Three places to camp were suggested by the owners of Philly's: the town pavilion, ball fields or replica log cabin across from the ball field. We stayed in the park across the ball field with the cabin. Used the facilities in the ball park. Very clean. Coffee available at the Conoco station. Everybody friendly. Somebody even left Mardi Gras beads on my Salsa while was drinking coffee inside the Conoco. Hmm.

Two of us stayed in the north dorm on night 2 of our Katy ride. Found it had everything we needed, more than enough food to get us through a Monday night and our breakfast the next day (though we had stopped at Snoddy's across the bridge from Boonville for a sandwich to go, and arrived in time to get cobbler from the Trailside Cafe). And we liked that we were on our own schedule for arriving, departing the next day. Would recommend it to other Katy riders.
Wish more was open on a Monday night in Rocheport. Beyond Abigail's, we heard great things about the new wood-burning pizza oven place on the trail.

We started our Katy Trail ride in Sedalia last Saturday, arriving on the early Amtrak train. We loved this historic hotel and we enjoyed the breakfast; but most of all we enjoyed how accommodating they were with our bicycles, even allowing them to sit in the beautiful library as we would be needing them again in a little while. Book directly with them and you will get a biker discount.

Did a 2 day and spent the night at the USA Inn in Clinton. Have stayed multiple times and it has not dissapointed. Owners very nice, rooms clean and comfy, hot showers with good water pressure, and just enough of a breakfast and coffee to get us going down the trail. PLUS...the price is right...$55 for the 2 of us!

We spent our second night at the Comfort Inn in Boonville which is just off a spur 2.7 miles west of Boonville. They treated us very well. They gave us a room on the first floor and let us bring our bikes inside. We had a huge selection for breakfast and they even told us we could take food for the trail. We definitely enjoyed the hot tub after our ride from Sedalia.

On Saturday morning September 1st, I was riding my bike in the Treloar area. Between 8:00 and 9:30. About 1 1/2 past Treloar going towards Hermann, I got a flat tire. My car was about 2 miles away. Not wanting to waste much time I decided to place my bike and helmet a little ways off the trail. I ran back to my car and went to go pick it up. In the 20 minutes I was gone my bike was stolen. It is a yellow female small framed bike, made by diamondback, it is the insight model. The helmet was white and light blue.

Oh No! That's terribly unfortunate.
I don't spend too much time around Treloar, but next time I'm there there I'll keep an eye out :)

Wow, sorry to hear that. I will be riding through that area tomorrow, we too will keep an eye out for it.

I will be arriving in Warrensburg, then trian to clinto and the trail. Planning to visit winery's, brewery's ans stay in b&b's. Two weeks or so. Riding a allez with full bags and all winter weather gear ,also have gps. My children are in Warrensburg, and my parents live in Nixa. Will be looking for a route to Nixa from the end of the trial

I don't think the train goes to Clinton, it has a stop in Sedalia. To get to Nixa by bike, I would go back west on the Katy to Clinton, then take HWY 13 south, lots of traffic, but wide shoulder all the way to Bolivar, pickup the Frisco Highline Trail to Springfield
