I was VERY excited to see the website and information up on this year's Pedalers Jamboree! I don't have any affiliation with them--I'm only a participant, nothing more--so with that said, here is my shameless plug: Be there.

This year they will not only have the regular events from Columbia to Booneville, but they will also be doing what they call "an extended tour" with events you ride to on Sunday eve somewhere around Hartsburg. I'll be there for all of it.

Sometimes you "Go ride" the Katy: At other times, you "Lollygag". I am sooooo much looking forward to that wonderful long weekend of lollygaging. Check it out at their Pedalers Jamboree website and make plans for an awesome extended musical weekend on the Katy.

Anonymous on 01/26/2013 09:11 AM
It's not listed in the Events. We'll have to search for this one.

Man oh man, do I have the winter blues....and a cold. Sitting here thinking about wheat beer instead of DayQuil. This too, shall pass.

Down to two months or so now. Winter is still a drag, but Spring will be here for real, soon I'm sure. Just registered for the Pedaler's Jamboree and looking forward to it. They tell me that all ages go to this event, well I have the upper end covered. :) We'll see, sounds like fun!

Figs from Olathe, KS on 03/27/2013 05:11 PM
I am going too!! I signed up back in February. Talked a buddy of mine into going with me. I have used the event as an excuse to buy add-on stuff for my bike. I bought a cargo trailer (I know they haul camp gear, but I may want to hault a cooler or camera bag..) and I bought a cell phone charger to keep my phone charged on long rides.

I can't wait for this event, I think it's going to be a blast.

Tammy on 03/29/2013 11:50 AM
We made plans to ride the trail last year unaware of the Peddler's Jamboree and just happened to be riding the same part of the trail. It was our first time on the Katy Trail as well as our first year biking, so we were and still are newbies, but we had a blast. Even though it was intensely hot last year, it was still amazing. There were so many things to see, bands to listen to, food to eat and people to meet. Everyone was so nice. We had 2 flat tires and there were so many people that stopped and asked if we were ok and if we needed any help. We already have our reservations made to go again this year. Definitely something we will do from now on!!!

Darrell from Jefferson City, Mo. on 03/29/2013 08:12 PM
Will be starting from Hartsburg self contained to Boonville on the first day, Saturday morning and riding back on Sunday, as part of the extended tour. If anyone would like to join in, you are welcome.

Figs from Olathe, KS on 03/31/2013 09:08 AM
It's cool to see so many people making plans for this. My first time on KT was last October during the Monster Bash. I really loved the extra activities and fun atmosphere, so I thought PedJam would be a hoot! Hope to see all of you out there.

By the way, when chosing a camp site, I SNORE!! Fair warning given.

Darrell from Jefferson City, Mo. on 05/04/2013 05:10 PM
My info packet came in the mail today, past couple of days I've been getting geared up, been putting in time on the trainer and the sun just came out, things are looking good!

It's been difficult to get out on the trail so far this year, winter seems to just keep hanging on, or at least the cold and wet weather does. Plus, other obligations that compete for those few fair weather days we've had, like mowing the dang yard, makes it even harder to get out there. I feel for those that have been touring, riding, or thru hiking on the Katy the last month or so, the weather has been pretty bad. Hope they've been able to make the most of it, it's tough to stay motivated, I've been there. We can plan and plan, but the one variable that requires good luck is the weather.

So, HERE'S TO GOOD WEATHER LUCK for all!

Figs from Olathe, KS on 05/05/2013 08:02 AM
I have not yet gotten my participant's packet, but I did get my Pedaler's Jamboree Jersey Friday!! My packet should be here Monday or Tuesday. I have been riding a little, between rain and snow storms. Gotta get my tent and stuff out and get it re-weather proofed! I plan to be at the start in Columbia at 0700 and head straight for Lucy's in McBaine for those two opening acts there. If you see a couple guys in PedJam Jerseys and hauling coolers on trailers, say hi, cause that'll be me and Mark!

Figs from Olathe, KS on 05/08/2013 08:32 AM
I got my packet, I got my packet, I'm somebody now! (Channelling Steve Martin in The Jerk). Very anxious for this event and look forward to meeting lots of great folks.

Any thoughts on the Jamboree switching to using metal tokens for purchases this year? Good, Bad, Indifferent?

Figs from Olathe, KS on 05/09/2013 02:41 PM
It confuses me: I am a PedJam virgin, and have no idea how many tokens to buy for my needs over 3 days????

Darrell from Jefferson City, Mo. on 05/09/2013 05:16 PM
It sounds as though there will be several places to replenish your supply of tokens. Plus a place in Columbia on Sunday and at camp in Hartsburg to cash them in on Monday morning.

As for thoughts on using tokens, it sounds ok to me, I assume it will help simplify and speed up purchases. Guess we'll know how well it works after this years jamboree.

Gary from Near Tebbetts on 05/10/2013 11:29 AM
It initially struck me a strange to stand in line to buy tokens and then stand in line to purchase food and drink etc. and then after it is over, needing to convert the tokens back to cash (or just keep them as a souvenir).

But you are right, we will need to see it in action to be able to judge it's value and effectiveness.

Pseudio on 05/15/2013 08:04 PM
Figs, since you are the veteran, can I just show up and purchase tickets and food for the Pedalers Jamboree this year? I see they have tokens this year. I don't need a packet with wrist band and all that stuff?

MidSouth from Rogersville, MO on 05/15/2013 08:52 PM
You need to register if you want gear transfer and access to Kemper Park in Boonville.

Pseudio on 05/16/2013 05:47 AM
So its Columbia to Boonville on Sat and Boonville to Hartsburg on Sunday and all points in between? I can stay in hotels an purchase tokens for food and concerts? It sounds like the annual KT ride set-up?

MidSouth from Rogersville, MO on 05/16/2013 12:26 PM
Pseudio, I think you should look at the website: http://www.pedalersjamboree.com/ If you didn't reserve hotels for this long ago, it's not likely to find openings now. There is a two or three day option that entails Hartsburg if doing the three day option.

While riding from Boonville to Jefferson City, we had already stopped at Rocheport for lunch, but wanted to visit Dotty's for a snack. As we arrived, we began a conversation with some folks who were just leaving, then realized we were past Dotty's closing time. As we began to get back on our bikes to try another restaurant, Dotty came out the front door and told us to come in and she would make us something to eat, burgers or dessert. We all settled on the blackberry cobbler with ice cream and it was the best we had ever had.

Ben Herr from Lyons, Colorado on 05/16/2013 06:37 AM
We had about the same senerio happen to us last year. And that cobbler is to die for. Highly recommend it.

I am interested in running the whole Katy Trail, about 35-40 miles per day. Has anyone ran this before? I would be lodging every night and probably eating in restaurants most of the time. I will also have a car following along as close to the trail as possible. Any suggestions?? I am doing this to support the Brain Injury Association of KC. I was going to run from KC to St Louis by Route 50 but someone suggested running the Katy Trail.
Thanks for any help.

1 Day KT Rider on 02/05/2013 08:48 PM
Dustin, I plan on doing the full trail by bike with a few friends in one day this coming summer in late June. I am riding for a cause also. As far as running there may have been a few runners but Ray (webmaster) has a posting in the trip planner section of this forum at the bottom under one day riders and hikers but it shows just two hikers blogs. Having a car follow you should not be a problem since there are roads that parallel most of the trail. Is your support group getting donations on the number of miles per day you run? Increasing the miles per day completed may get more donations possibly. Also I would also post your running event in the events section on this forum 4-5 months prior to draw the attention to your cause. Good luck.

AM from Dallas, TX on 05/03/2013 04:06 AM
Dustin, Congrats! Have you done your run yet? I'm planning to thru hike beginning the end of this month; How can we support your cause?
Also, how do I get to the posts/blogs of the hikers? Thanks! ~a

Anon on 05/03/2013 07:32 AM
You might jump to page 147, about 2/3 down, and read the 7/27/2009 post by Matt & David about running across MO via the Katy. Only one of them made it the whole way. Good luck.

Ray (webmaster) on 05/14/2013 05:51 AM
I have compiled a list of full-distance runners, through hikers, and one-day trail bikers, including a link to the post that Anon refers to above.

Bill P from Ottawa, KS on 05/15/2013 06:52 PM
35-40 miles a day? You are the man. I'm just now getting into running (primarily as cross training for my cycling) and can run/walk a few miles at a stretch before pooping out :)

After a long ride from Jefferson City, we stayed at the Concord Hill B&B with George and Maggie. Maggie had told me they would pick us up at the trail, but we decided to ride our bikes up the hill. That was the only mistake we made. George and Maggie have an excellent B&B and we had 2 remarkable meals prepared by George. The ride down the hill in the morning was much more fun.

Live Blues from Huntsdale-ish on 06/23/2012 02:16 AM
I am a beginning bike rider and spending time on the KT, but a lifetime music lover. Katfish Katy's in Huntsdale is a wonderful chance to see genuine live blues. There is a stage that literally hangs over the river. Katfish Katy's is right on the trail. The store has basic "stop stuff"; water, showers, flushing toilets, and the ice/soda/sunscreen/Bologna needs.

The live blues is an amazing event. It occurs every Sunday from 1-5pm from May through October. It is always free, and you can buy the 3 B's (burgers, brats, beer) at a reasonable price.

Some of the musicians weekly traverse a third of Missouri to attend this, and perform basically for free (or a cut of your tips). Some of the musicians are really good. Some of the musicians are really learning. Some of the musicians are teenagers, that will make your jaw drop to see them play.

Harmonica duet and duel? It happens often. Peach-face and gray-beard guitar players learning from each other? That happens weekly. Somebody new goes up on stage, and it's always different.

Plan to spend a few hours if you can. Every hour it is changing.

WW from Denver on 06/26/2012 02:34 PM
Can't find a music schedule for Katfish Katy's. Interested from July 1 - July 6. Guess I'll head out on July 1 and hope there's music from 1 - 5. Thx for the post!

Live Blues from Huntsdale-ish on 06/27/2012 08:21 PM
There really isn't a schedule, except every Sunday from May to October. They have it on Easter (the heathens), Mother's Day, Father's Day, the only reason they won't have it is because of rain.

After October it still occurs every Sunday, they usually go to Columbia at some place that doesn't mind free live music.

Recalled seeing this thread last year, had to dig to find/reply.

We stopped by the blues jam last Sunday, and had a great time. It was a little chilly, but good music all around.

There will be a fried chicken dinner on May 27th in Tebbetts with proceeds going to support the Missouri Conservation Federation's Turner Katy Trail Shelter. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased from Dave Steinmeyer (573-634-4038) or Charles Davidson (573-496-3986) or can be purchased at the door. The $8 will get you country fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, homemade biscuits, dessert and drink. The meal will be served from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm at the Tebbetts Community Hall. The hall is located on the south side of Hwy 94 just before the turnoff for the Tebbetts trailhead. Based on my past experience they sometimes run out of meals towards the end of the day so I wouldn't wait til the very end to show up.

This was a great B&B. The bed was the most comfortable giving me a great night's sleep. Having the entire house was almost like being at home. After 5 days of cycling on the Katy Trail, having a washer and dryer was a much needed luxury. I would highly recommend this B&B.

ArkyKenny from Farmington, AR on 12/08/2011 10:20 PM
We stayed here in mid-Sept 2011. Awesome! Call me a savage, but my only experience with B&B's was with a host, other guests in other rooms, and a formal breakfast. Getting the whole house for my son and myself after 3 days of riding in the rain on that trail ranks high any way you cut it. That was the BEST hot bath I've ever had! Good breakfast. No hastle. Very reasonable price. Stay here if you can!

J Spencer from Little Rock on 05/06/2013 05:01 PM
The Best stay on the trail. Not your normal B &B. Host will meet you and leave you alone. Snacks provided, but Phillies pizza is just down the street. Nice stay after a long 72 mile ride on the trail.
