Brian, I'm sure Ray would be happy to check it out and update the listing but it would helpful if you specified what number above you are talking about.

Ray (webmaster) on 07/27/2011 12:41 PM
Yes, I tracked this down and cleared it out. Brian will not be getting calls from shuttle seekers any more (he may have missed a great business opportunity!).

The old phone # was on a page that did not have links to it any more, but apparently people were still getting there from search engines.

Brian from Saint Charles on 07/28/2011 10:16 AM
I thought about it, but do not own a van or anything similar. Thank you for finaly removing it.

Brian on 09/20/2018 07:12 PM
7 years later... Still get the occasional Katy Trail phone call. Usually older sounding women who claim to be getting my number from a travel guide. Once every few months is tolerable. Way better than every day. Thanks again Ray

FALL on the Katy Trail

October 7 will probably be minimal at best. Usually mid October or later is peak.

The southern trail segment from Jefferson to almost Noland and 350 is still officially under construction, but people have been using parts of the trail since July. The only good trailhead is at Harris Park off of Pryor. Any trailhead to the north probably won't get completed until next year when they start construction from 350 to the Stadium Complex. If you want to visualize where the trail is going, then look at this youtube video cleip that Jackson County has posted on their website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4Ot9tFozJs ...Raytown will have a major trailhead that will be built during the next phase.

I meant to say Hartman Park off of Pryor (just south of 3rd Street).

Josh from Raymore on 08/28/2018 02:09 PM
Awesome video!!! I tracked the flight of the plane on google maps to have an idea of exactly where the trail will be headed. You can follow the treeline and old rail line on satellite version using google maps. Do you know how far the trail goes starting at the Hartman Park trailhead? I drove by it and can see progress, didnt know if anyone had ridden it to know how much trail is actually rideable right now. Thanks again for sharing the video.

Please stay off this section of the trail until it opens sometime this fall. It is posted as "No trespassing".

This sounds good but we will be passing through on a Tuesday. Are there other places to eat in Hartsburg?

Allen from Shawnee on 09/15/2018 03:15 PM
My recollection is the bar in town serves small sized pizza that is frozen then microwaved. There are restaurants in Jefferson City, there is a restaurant at the airport in North Jefferson that closes at 2 pm. Coopers landing just west of Hartsburg has microwave able stuff and sometimes they have a pot of something cooked up, they also have a Thai restaurant some days and hours.

Have a good trip
Allen

Cathy from Pittsburgh, PA on 09/16/2018 08:07 AM
There used to be a restaurant at the golf course by the North Jefferson City trailhead that got good reviews. I am not sure if it is still operating.

I am so glad to hear Hartsburg has another restaurant to fill the void left by Dottie's. And thank you Dottie for carrying the torch for as long as you did. I loved your food and friendship.

We really enjoyed our stay At the Dormitory at School House B&B, we have been staying there since 2010. Has all the basic needs we like. Very clean and convent to the downtown and shops. If you come to ride the Katy trail like we do you will be impressed that there is a bike shed to keep your bike in and even basic repair and air needs.

Yes you can park at the trailhead to ride the trail. That's what it's for. It's been a few years ago since we've parked there, but we had no issue when we did. I don't recall any posts here indicating that it was not a safe location.

Klondike Park near Defiance.

If by full service you mean hook ups for RV’s, Klondike doesn’t have RV parking. Only walk in camping and some cabins. Herman City Park has full service, I’m not familiar with east too much. There is Sundmeyers Park in St Charles RV camping only and some cabins.

My husband and I stayed at Kim's Cabins for 3 nights.(As you pull into the cabins, ours was the cabin on the right, closest to the street. We had 2 queen beds in a fully furnished cabin with a full kitchen, full bathroom) We arrived VERY late on a Sunday night; Kim was very accommodating with the uncertainty of whether or not we would make it Sunday (we drove over 700 miles). We biked out and back on the Katy: one day to Clinton; another day to Sedalia, as well as adding in biking some of the spur including biking to an Amish produce auction up the road that Kim told us about. We LOVED the cabin we were in. The cabin had everything you need, and was meticulously clean & maintained. We loved having the microwave, full little stove with stovetop with 4 burners, coffee pot, sink, full refrig, dishes, utensils, anything that we needed to cook was there (we are picky with our foods, so prefer a kitchen rather than eating out), and full bathroom with great shower -- wonderful after a day of biking. (Katy Trail is accessed just less than minute away from Kim's Cabins) ,& Kim's great hospitality makes this a destination we highly recommend.

A "shout out" to a wonderful B&B that's about a mile away from the Katy Trail, but worth the uphill ride nonetheless. The Concord Hill B&B is located in a very peaceful little town with great views of the Missouri hills & farm country. The food is great, the accomdations were cozy ... and see if you can get George & Wade to cook dinner for you and serenade you with a private concert in the B&B's wine cellar. Just a great time - we highly recommend this B&B.

My husband and I wanted to camp here, based on what we read about beautiful camping spots with shade near the river, from this property. Well, Katfish Katy's has a fence around it, you need a keycode to get into the fenced area; and from the outside it looks closed. I later found that their website "The Station House at Katfish Katy's" indicates hours are:Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. weather permitting. Website doesn't indicate any camping. A biking local familiar with the change said that someone was found cooking crystal meth in the parking lot; ???? hence all of the changes with the fencing, etc. If that's true, then so sad that the public misses out on the beauty of the place, since access to and from the Katy Trail is also restricted from Katfish Katy's. I'll update this if I find that this info is incorrect.

If you're lucky maybe he will even play his bass for you. If you're a dog-lover like I am, you're in luck. Doug has two fantastic dogs, Spot, a super sweet yellow lab, and Freckles his partner in crime. The B&B is a short hike to the Grand Bluffs Conservation Area, which will take you to the top of the Bluff for a Lewis and Clark view of the surroundings. Highly recommended.

I stayed here in early July, 2018. About as close to heaven as you can get on the Katy. Tranquil accommodations, excellent tub for soaking off the miles, plenty of books for catching up on local history, and the food can not be beat. I have a restricted diet, and Joey made me some amazing breakfasts, and even encouraged me to pick some veggies from the garden. I had planned on staying just one night, but ended up staying two, and took a day trip to Hermann. Go out of your way to stay here for a night or two. Joey and the Bird House are jewels on the Katy.

My wife and I are on a 6 month trip in our motorhome from Florida to Oregon and back. We’d like to park the RV and shuttle to a segment we can bike in 1 or 2 days.

Although we’re open to suggestions we’ve been thinking of staying in Jefferson City and shuttling to Booneville and riding back to Jefferson City....looks like 65-70 Miles. If we did this route where would be a good place to stay approximately half way.

We are recreational bikers with Trek hybrids and are primarily interested in scenery and history.

We’re open to similiar alternatives and possibly two similiar segments but an RV Park where we leave the motorhome safely is a must.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Randy

You could park your RV here safely and I could shuttle you either way on the trail. I am at MM 110.8 close to center of trail and have a B&B and camping on the trail.Doug The Bluffton Barn.

Hank on 08/31/2018 06:40 PM
Go to Hermann instead. 2 miles from McKittrick across the Mo River. Camp in the Hermann City Park and then ride over the river to McKittrick and the Katy Trail from there. Enjoy.

Doug from Bluffton on 08/31/2018 10:17 PM
If you would like something more private try Steamboat Junction 10 miles west of McKittrick. It's a more remote peaceful setting than the city park and right on the trail.

Klondike Park, between Defiance and Augusta has camping.

Allen from Shawnee, KS on 09/03/2018 02:19 AM
There is no RV parking at Klondike park. They do rent cabins, other than that it’s all walk in tent camping, no vehicles except in parking lots.

A nice place to camp with an RV is Katy Roundhouse just outside of Boonville. Quiet and right on the Katy Trail.
