Cathy from Jefferson City on 06/30/2011 10:39 PM
I have heard good reports about The Cliff House B & B and the Briar Rose B & B. I think they both will provide a shuttle. With the opening of the biking/pedestrian bridge over the Missouri River you could easily bike from the N. Jefferson Trail Head to the Cliff House, which is one block from the south end of the new biking/pedestrian bridge ends.
By the way, while we are talking about the new biking/pedestrian bike path over the Missouri River at Jefferson City, it will be closed during the fireworks on 7/4.

We have stayed at the Cliff Manor the last 2 years and the owner (Thom) is very helpful. In 2010 he picked us up at the N Jefferson trailhead and shuttled us to his B&B. This year we road across on the new bike lane (which is completed separated from vehicle lanes) and had no problems getting to the B&B.
tina nathe from maplewood, mo. on 07/02/2011 08:14 AM
We have stayed at the Cliff Manor also and they do have a shuttle. We also just stayed at Critter Cottage in Marthasville and Monettes Cabin in Marthasville both shuttle.
LQ from Bridgeton, MO on 08/07/2011 07:43 AM
How far is it from the trail to this B & B. Costs?
Cathy from Jefferson City on 08/07/2011 08:19 AM
LQ, I just went to the websites for Cliff Manor (www.cliffmanor.com, phone 573-635-4208) and Briar Rose B & B (www.briarroseinnbnb.com, phone 573-338-0284). The Cliff Manor site has a map showing how close they are. I would guess that once you get off the pedestrian/bike bridge on the Jefferson City side of the river (south side of river) the Cliff Manor is 1/4 mile or less. That would put them about 2 miles or less from the N. Jefferson trail head. The Briar Rose web site says they are 3.5 miles from the N. Jefferson Trail Head.
Ray Price from Overland Park on 08/10/2011 03:01 PM
We stayed at the Briar Rose last summer and they came out and picked us up. I was really impressed with how he transports the bikes. he has a full sheet of plywood with quick release mounts in the back of his covered pickup truck. Just set the front fork in one of the mounts (he can carry 4 bikes I believe), lock it down and slide the sheet back into the truck. Very slick. The folks at the Briar Rose are super nice and the B&B was very nice as well.

We were just at the Cliff Manor B&B the beginning of August. The ride from North Jefferson was easy...it is literally right across the bridge. They were very accommodating to us! Our bikes were muddy...they cleaned them and filled and froze our water bottles. The breakfast was outstanding. The best scones I have ever had....and I'm half Scottish! I would highly recommend this B&B.

We just spent 3 days with JeanetteBriar Rose B & B (www.briarroseinnbnb.com, phone 573 -338-0284. The service was outstanding, the food delicious and a very quiet location for a bed and breakfast. They will pick up at many of the different trailheads.
Scott C. from Troy MO on 09/15/2011 11:22 PM
We just stayed at the Briar Rose B&B. We had five adult men, plenty of room, very nice place. Randy and Jeanette picked us up and shuttled us to the B&B. We had secured storage for our bikes, plenty of showers, laundry facilties, and fresh made brownies upon arrival. They also allowed us to tag along to their dinner at Bandanas. We encountered some bike issues on the trail and they shuttled us to the bike shop and waiting for our repairs to be completed prior to delivering us to the trailhead. I would highly recommend this B&B. Randy and Jeanette are great.
Thanks Randy and Jeanette!

Briar Rose very nice, wonderful owners. Helped with a bike problem. Would stay there again if in Jeff City. Take the B-Rose shuttle rather than ride in. It's a fairly long ride in a busy urban setting with hills. Unless you're strong urban riders, the shuttle is a bargain and the way to go.

Went through this detour area this weekend. The detour is not marked well (esp when the sun is shading the signs). Ended up accidentally riding up the Hamburg trail for a bit before a nice cyclist told me to turn around and pointed out the detour. Several others were making the same mistake as I passed by.
merkin4 from St. Peters MO on 10/03/2011 02:39 PM
I'd have to agree with this. Keep in mind that you'll want to make the sharpest turn you possibly can of the routes offered, both when going west and east. The trail just about doubles back upon itself - remember that and you should be fine.

Yes, the forum was down due to a database problem which started sometime Friday and was resolved last night. Sorry about that. However, I am not aware of posts missing. The database issue that brought down the forum should not have resulted in anything being lost - please let me know if I'm overlooking something.

kevin from Jefferson City on 09/26/2011 01:20 PM
Well, it kind of depends on how far you want to ride and what you want to see. The ride between Jeff City and Rocheport is scenic. You can take Clinton or Windsor to as far as you want to ride as well, but I can't attest to the scenery there.
David from Holden MO on 09/27/2011 12:30 PM
is the trail hilly or mostly flat, I road from Cliton to winsor, I thought that was hilly. these are first time riders on the trail.
kevin from Jefferson City on 09/27/2011 02:03 PM
Check the Elevation Chart on this site. It is flat from Boonville to Machens, a few hills from Clinton to Boonville
zbiker on 09/27/2011 04:58 PM
Clinton to Sedalia is kind of boring. I most enjoy anywhere from Pilot Grove the Jefferson City, then east of Herman to the Treloar area.
Anonymous on 09/29/2011 10:17 PM
Rocheport to Hartsburg is my favorite 25 miles.
Anonymous on 10/03/2011 11:41 AM
Just returned from my first Katy ride. Boonville to Hartsburg would be the most enjoyable. Lots of Odd things to see with great photo choices. Hartsburg to Hermann was farm land for the most part.

We just finished biking the Katy trail and we stayed at b/b's along the way. But by far the best was the High Street Victorian in Boonsville. The hospitality was exceptional along with the breakfast. If you are staying in Boonsville, I would recommend this Inn.
Also, we biked into St Louis and had no problems getting across the city and into downtown. It was about 30 miles from St Charles but well worth the effort. We used the Route 2 suggestion from this web site.
And finally, don't rush riding the trail. The most fun was stopping in the small towns and talking with locals.

You may want to click on the map at the top of the page. New Franklin is 10 miles west of Rocheport, or Huntsdale, 6.6 miles to the east.
Trek on 09/16/2011 09:25 PM
The Frederick Inn in Boonville is a good overnights stay that is only 10 to 13 miles from Rocheport. We've stayed there many times when we were riding out of Rocheport. October usually requires planning in advance.
PN on 09/27/2011 02:53 PM
We were going to stay in Rocheporte but didn't want to pay $145 per night so I just reserved a room in Booneville using travelocity and it was $28 for Saturday night (Oct. 1). Turned out to be a Days Inn. (With tax, $32)
Anonymous on 10/03/2011 04:02 AM
Unless it was a really bad Day's Inn, $32 with the tax was a great buy. Well done.

We arrived alittle after 8 and the manager had given out the room i reserved. when we went to our room there were roaches every where. And it looked like a real party room. I went back to the desk and requested my money back. We started packing up our bikes and a guy came to the room with roach spray. A current guest said "Man you finally gonna do something about the Bugs"
We went across the street to the American Inn.

Brad P. from Pea Ridge on 09/23/2011 10:37 PM
No. There seems to be some unwritten rule by the state to not allow paving. I say that because the trail is not paved even in some urban areas that are paved in trails in other parts of the state. For example, the Frisco trail between Springfield and Willard has a sign saying Missouri received money from the Obama stimulus in 2009 to pave it. Missouri used the stimulus to pave the lowly Frisco over the Katy? Don't let that keep you from riding a great trail, though, and the recent rain should keep the dust down a bit.
cat from nashville on 09/24/2011 08:06 AM
Thanks. I am just worried I don't have the right size tires. I will be checking out the Frisco trail too.
Darrell from Jefferson City, MO. on 09/25/2011 12:08 PM
Hey Nashville Cat, Most any tire works on the Katy, people seem to get concerned when they are running those skinny little road tires, of which I don't know anything about. But, 28mm's and up no problem, some have run 25's I believe with no problems. I run 700c x 32's on touring bike and 700 x 38's on the hybrid they work very well, I really don't notice much difference. Carry a patch kit, you probably won't need it but just in case.
The Katy Trail is pretty smooth, Frisco Highline, not as smooth and with an occasional rut or two, it's not really too rough but a more challenging ride and also a lot of fun, I wouldn't use a road bike on it, hybrid or mountain bike or anything that is a little beefier than most road bikes.
Enjoy your ride!

Do you mean in the St. Louis part of the KT trail? If so, you may want to contact Katy Trail Bike Rental in Defiance, MO. They are a full service bike rental place right on the trail. You can find other bike rental places on this site under towns and services.
